National Immunization Awareness Month Resources Available

August 12, 2019

National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) is an annual observance held in August to highlight the importance of vaccination for people of all ages.

The Minnesota Department of Health maintains data relating to immunization coverage rates. You can view school immunization rates, as well as immunization rates at the county level, based on information collected through the Minnesota Immunization Information Connection (MIIC). This data may be helpful to you as you consider how to help increase immunization rates in your area.

If you’re looking for new ways to make an effective recommendation, answer questions that your patients have, or how to get your entire staff on board with vaccination, #HowIRecommend is a video series available through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A toolkit for communicating with patients and parents is also available through the CDC’s website and includes sample social media messaging for physicians.

The MNAAP will join with MDH in increasing awareness about HPV vaccinations during the week of Aug. 12 by posting to its social media accounts with information about the vaccine. Feel free to re-tweet, or join in the conversation with the hashtag #StopHPVCancerMN.
